Hi Folks:
Sometimes in life it feels like you take two steps forward and one step back. Today was one of those days.
Kate had to go back into surgery this morning to repair a leak in the colon that was filling her abdomen with fluid and air. This could be a potentially very dangerous situation. Thankfully, they identified a problem overnight and she was first on the list this morning! Surgery took less then an hour and our fine doc, Doctor Drebin, said she came through with flying colors. She will spend one or two days in intensive care so they can keep a very close eye on her and then she will move back to 12 Silverstein (our home away from home this week:) She will most likely have to be in the hospital for another 5 to 7 days. We are looking forward to getting her home as soon as possible.
Keep the love and prayers coming. Every little bit helps! One day at a time has a whole new meaning for me.
We will be sure to post how she is coming along so check back soon.....
Hugs,
Stephanie

My Mom has shown me such incredible strength throughout my life but after last night and today she's beyond a hero in my eyes. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and in this instance I chose to believe that. That while there was a less than 1% chance of this happening (the leak) it did happen and somehow, some way Mom will be stronger because of it and so will all of us.
I love you Mom, my one and only, my hero.
Oh, Kate! I'm so sorry this is happening to you. You poor dear. Life is just not fair sometimes, but I know how strong you are and with everybody's support and prayers you will get through this. No wonder the pain wasn't getting better. You are my hero also. Love and strenght to all. If there is anything we can do please let us know.

Jen,
You’re correct with your thought and inspiration. Mom has been presented with a “small” set back today, but I know that with all of us by her side, she will get through it. Her courage and determination is bigger then her “set backs”.

My dad also had an unexpected setback during his scare last year...another surgery that delayed his treatment and was such a blow when it happened.
As I've told you, he's doing great now. A rough start but it all turned out. And it will for you, too.
So please hang in there and stay positive. This sucks...but it won't keep us down!
Love you all!
A setback though unfortunate sometimes paves the way for an even better recovery. Glad to hear KO is in ICU with close monitoring-it's where she needs to be right now. Stay positive as you will be moving forward again at a pace that will work! We love you Aunt Kate and family. Lots of love, prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.
