I love the good days

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some thoughts today as I sit here with Mom. I arrived at my daily time of 11am and she was up, alert and sitting in her chair! She looks great--we requested she get a good hair wash and "style" from the night nurse and bless her soul, she even tried to make mom's hair look like it does in all of her photos. Not sure Mom would agree, but it works.

So today we spend the day together--watching the snow fall, listening to the 24 hour coverage of the storm on the TV (which mom is already annoyed with--give us our morning tv shows!), and we chat--I read her cards and some of the posts on the blog and we pass the time together.

For now we're focused on working on weaning down the ventilator so we can go home--that's our collective goal and Mom is all for it. So we'll remain positive and focused on that. And for every minute in between we'll cherish each other and all of you.

Thanks again for the outpours of calls, cards, comments--we love it all. We'll likely be in this same room until we're able to leave in case you want to send a card:

Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
Rhoads Building, Room 5018
3400 Spruce Street
Philadelphia, PA 19104

Love to all,
jen

Hi Jen and Kate, How great it is to hear you are up and watching the snow. We have about two feet on top of the other two feet from Saturday and are getting ready to tackle the driveway. Not quite sure how to go about it. With the wind on top of our mountain it's
as high as the railing of our deck. It sure is beautiful from inside the house, but we don't think it will look quite as good from the outside when the shoveling begins. We love you both and are so glad you are feeling a little better today, Kate. Bet the head wash helped.
Get stronger and get rid of that D!!!M ventilator.

Hi Kate, Jen and the Clan... I am stunned. I just found out today. I have no words to describe how I feel. You have all been so much a part of my life for, hard to believe, almost 20 years! Though this news is hard to accept, Kate please know that you have made such a possitive impact in so many lives, this world is a much better place because of you. I treasure the many MANY laughs, all of the chit chat and glasses (should I say bottles :o) of wine catching up on goings on between the parties when I helped out. What fun times we had! Our dinners together ALWAYS turned out FABULOUS! Kate, I know that you are strong in your faith, and that God has a plan for each of us. I am truly blessed that God put you and your family in my life. Hang in there! Love you! and sending a BIG hug!

Hi,
I am so glad to hear that you are up and well enough to be annoyed with the constant snow coverage. These news casters act like they have never seen snow before. "There is over 10 inches of this amazing, cold, wet substance covering the ground!" Just kidding.
They were "live" and went over the entire telecast of General Hospital, how dare they!? I hope that you get home soon so that you can recuperate and rest in your own home surrounded by your many loved ones. Wishing you strength, health, and that you hold on tight to your sense of humor! Love, Jill Sockwell
